About The Event

Speakers for the other Lenten programs include Joe McDaniel, co-chair of the Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast’s Commission on Racial Justice and Reconciliation, who will speak on the Africatown Truth and Education Initiative, March 18 at 5:30 p.m. The Africatown Truth and Education Initiative (ATEI) is a project developed within the Episcopal Church to elevate the history and contemporary reality of Africatown, the historic community in Mobile, founded by survivors of the Clotilda, the last known slave ship to enter the United States.

The initiative is designed to promote recognition, awareness, and education about:

·        The Clotilda and the Africans who were trafficked on it
